Film Distributors
Aspects of the Film and Video Classification Act of primary interest to film distributors in Alberta include:
- Alberta’s age-rating categories remain the same.
- Pro-rated distribution licenses are now available for distributors who do not purchase distribution licenses at the beginning of the calendar year.
- The Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association (CMPDA) is designated as the official classification agency in Alberta for home video ratings.
- Temporary distribution licenses are no longer available.
- Classification fees are the same regardless of the format in which the film is submitted.
No distributor may distribute a film for the purposes of exhibition in Alberta unless the distributor holds a current distribution license and film has been classified in Alberta. Educational materials will be distributed to Alberta’s theatres to inform the Alberta public about Alberta’s film classification system
