Alberta's Theatres
Aspects of the Film and Video Classification Act of primary interest to theatres in Alberta include:
- Alberta’s age-rating categories remain the same.
- A film’s classification must be posted:
- At the point of sale; and
- Where specific show times are advertised, such as in newspapers, theatre voice recordings or websites.
- Registered not-for-profit exhibitors are automatically exempt from classification fees and no longer have to apply for exemption. They are still required to complete and submit a Community Screening Registration form to the Alberta Film Classification office.
All films exhibited to the public for a fee require classification.
Educational materials will be distributed to Alberta’s theatres and film festivals to inform the Alberta public about Alberta’s film classification system.
